That means this one is a standalone that doesn't tie into the previous films' watch order. After three decades of the same canon, the Chucky franchise was faced with a studio reboot that set aside the existing timeline (and the paranormal elements of the original franchise). In this reboot, Chucky responds to a growing fear of machine control. You don’t have to have seen all of the movies to watch the show, but doing so certainly gives the series a much more fleshed-out feeling - and besides, who doesn’t want more Chucky content? And to make it better, the series doesn’t retcon any of its prior films, so all the wacky lore that comes with the Child’s Play franchise is still very much intact. Chucky, which is now midway through its third season, is a brilliant addition to the franchise, allowing fans plenty more content from the titular doll while evolving the franchise for a new generation of fans. Not to mention, the series brings back some fan favorites from the franchise, with Brad Dourifreturning as the voice of Chucky, Jennifer Tilly coming back to play the iconic Tiffany Valentine, and Fiona Dourif reprising her role as Nica Pierce, just to name a few. Soon enough, Chucky begins to torment those around Jake, including the families of his classmates, leading to an unlikely trio of kids determined to take Chucky down once and for all. It’s a tale as old as time - or at least, as old as the Child’s Play franchise - and Jake learns the hard way that Chucky isn’t quite the Good Guy he pretends to be. The series, simply titled Chucky, was released in 2021 and follows teenager Jake Wheeler ( Zackary Arthur), who picks up the killer doll at a yard sale. In addition to these films, Chucky has inspired comic books, and video games, and has even made his way to television. The following list compiles all eight full-length films belonging to the franchise, as well as two short films placed in the order of release. Innocuous and cute, Chucky finds his way into intimate familial settings that other monsters would not, giving him an edge of surprise that he exploits over and over. From psychological thrillers to campy bloodfests to dark comedies, the little redheaded doll has gone through many iterations, all focusing on the loose premise of a doll that is animated with a malicious spirit. Fans of every genre know all to well that some movies can get stuck in development hell and never see the light of day. When it comes to longstanding horror franchises, it’s hard to find a character with the longevity and ability to adapt to ongoing sociological fears like Chucky has. That being said, just because Klevberg wants to make a sequel doesn't mean it will happen. Klevberg clearly has ideas for Child's Play 2, and with the fresh and modern approach that MGM took on the reboot, Child's Play 2 could be an intriguing addition to the franchise. Regardless of what happens with Mancini's Chucky, it should be encouraging for fans of the reboot that Klevberg is still excited about the possibility of making a sequel. Because of this, MGM could be waiting to see how Chucky performs before giving Klevberg the green light to make his sequel. Brad Dourif is returning to voice Chucky, and he and Mancini were very against MGM rebooting the franchise. With Mancini and Dourif both being involved with the TV show, fans are likely more excited for this than Child's Play 2. One reason Child's Play 2 may never happen is because Child's Play creator, Don Mancini, is continuing his storyline with the upcoming Syfy Chuckyseries.
